Sometimes Julie is an indie rock/Americana band fronted by singer-songwriter duo Monica Sorenson and Rick Walker. The two met in 2012 in a dive bar in San Diego, where Monica was up on stage singing karaoke, lending her powerful vocal style to songs by Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge and Alanis Morissette. Chatting with each other between songs, Rick learned that Monica was a poet looking for a new outlet for her words. Fortunately, Rick had 20+ years’ worth of musical compositions in his head that needed lyrics. The duo's first collaboration gave birth to their award-winning debut CD, HEAD FIRST, the title track of which generated substantial buzz, getting spins on both terrestrial and internet radio, and won an Akademia Music Award for best Americana music video. Sometimes Julie’s latest release, the EP entitled BRIGHT SIDE OF THE LINE, marks the duo’s evolution to a harder rocking sound and contains Monica’s most introspective lyrics yet, exploring themes of love and loss. It is a great listen. Joined by long-time SoCal rocker George Nelms (drums), along with San Diego music scene newcomers Bruce Paul Allen (bass) and Alberto Moreno (lead guitar), Sometimes Julie performs provocative indie rock with a strong Americana influence. Their raw, sexy, driving sound will stir up your passionate side! Visit us at sometimesjulie.com, reverbnation.com/sometimesjulie, facebook.com/sometimesjulie or youtube.com/user/sometimesjulieband.
John Lowery @ De Oro Mine Co.
Acoustic, Rock, Latin/World
Monday, January 7th @ 7:00pm
1/7 @ 7:00PM
John Lowery started his career as a singer-songwriter in Portland, Oregon back in the mid-nineties with his first band Hatful of Rain which he formed with Dramarama guitarist Mark Englert. At one time their drummer was Courtney Taylor-Taylor from The Dandy Warhols. His first album with Hatful of Rain got national distribution and radio play and received stellar reviews. Since 2000 John has released all solo albums - Fancy Car, I'm Going Home, and most recently Epiphany which is available for sale on I-Tunes . John has played with some pretty big players over the years including Jeff Linsky (Jazz Virtuoso), John Smith (Grammy Award Producer from Nu Shooz), and Tony Snow (Drummer from Dramarama) to name a few. He currently resides in Oceanside, CA and continues to play shows as a solo artist in his own backyard in San Diego, LA, and Orange County frequently. John plays mainly acoustic melodies with some electric guitar and backbeats with a laid-back feel. Some of his songs sound folksy and some sound rockish, with a little bit of blues & country from time to time. He performs regularly and not only performs songs that he has written, but also songs from such artists as Tom Petty, The Eagles, Rob Thomas, Jimmy Buffet, Rod Stewart, The Beatles, Jack Johnson, and many more.

Jesse Ray Smith is a soulful singer / songwriter looking to re-establish his musical home in San Diego. Having ventured north to the Bay Area after college, Jesse eventually made his way back down the coast in 2017 and found his spot in the sun in North County, San Diego. His previous SoCal band, The Pheromones, were nominated 2010 San Diego Music Award's Best Blues Rock Band and frequented clubs like The Belly Up Tavern, Winston's, 710 Beach Club, The Soda Bar, etc. He is now looking for a chance to establish himself as a solo artist, bringing his rootsy, acoustic sound into the cafes and wine bars until we have no choice but to look for bigger venues and players alike. Let's sing and drink and feel good by the beach!! Originals preferred, but an extensive cover catalog of classics and modern sing-alongs is readily available, ranging from Bob Marley to Chris Stapleton. Jesse has all his own gear to put on a show of any size, solo acoustic or with his full band of tastefully soulful musicians. Thanks for your time
