Whiskey Kiss style themselves retro-revamped rock and roll: a sound that incorporates their vintage roots with a nod to their modern take on music. They unabashedly blend traditional roots music with swing, pop, and rock stylings for a sound that’s fresh & fierce, and uniquely their own. Taking influences from a range of rockabilly legends such as Wanda Jackson and Johnny Burnett, to modern pioneers like Jack White and Amy Winehouse, their melodic and complex songwriting breathes life into the classic vintage sound. In the band’s short history, they’ve shared the stage with top rockabilly acts like The Blasters, The Chop Tops, Cadillac Tramps, Deke Dickerson, and even had the privilege of backing the Rockabilly Queen Wanda Jackson onstage. They also fit naturally when they play with Detroit garage band acts like Motobunny and The Love Me Nots. Led by husband and wife duo, Niki and Nick White, the band has grown into a musical powerhouse that is starting to gain serious attention. Songwriter and vocalist Niki is a petite charmer with a powerful voice. Bruce Legge on trumpet balances classical training with raw fervor. Tommy Collins, known for his time playing with Three Bad Jacks, The Rhythm Dragons, and Voodoo Swing is famed for his acrobatics and traditional styling on the doghouse bass. Nick White, who originally appeared on the upright, brings a brand new edge to the band with his take on guitar, and drummer Mike Robinson is new to the rockabilly scene, but his talent behind the kit shows he is no novice. Their debut album Dangerous One has been called “a brilliant mix of ‘traditional’ rockabilly…and jazz & rhythm (Tom Calleuw – Street Styled)”, and is available on iTunes, Bandcamp, and Spotify. If the band’s performance so far is any indication, it’s sure to be a record you won’t stop spinning.
