Juice Box

Juice Box is a San Diego based project fronted by drummer/composer Matthew Smith. Smith had this to say about the group, "I bought a suitcase rhodes and took the whole month of February and wrote one song per day, with no real project in mind. I then took what songs I felt had the most impact and formed the group." Juice Box is a band comprised of Ed Kornhauser on Fender rhodes, Omar Lopez on bass, Louis Valenzuela on guitar and Matthew Smith on drums.  At it's core Juice Box is an instrumental group, yet on the B side of it's debut and self titled release it features a San Francisco based vocalist "Lewis Gallardo" singing his song Heartbreak Reprise. With a wide variety of influences that span from Hendrix to Hancock this group is truly one that is pushing the funk, soul and jazz boundaries. Live shows highlight a steady pocket while exploring the depths of the group's collective improvisation.
