The story of Hazy Ray started with the Jazz and Soul alternative compositions of Singer/Songwriter Joshua Ray. Adding trombonist, turned front-man, Mike Hayes, to the mix not only yielded a name for the project, but also injected a strong blues element that was previously a rare occurrence in Ray’s music. In April of 2011, Hayes and Ray were joined by “Flecktone”-inspired double-bassist, Mitch Curtis. Hazy Ray then began a rampage of 30 live performances in 40 days, which started in New Orleans, Louisiana and concluded by recording their first album, "Deep and Shallow", at Wire Roads Studios in Houston, Texas. During that process, guitarist Ryan Noormohamed came in to the mix; laying down shredding solos on "Deep and Shallow" and "Rainy Day". At the conclusion of the recording process, Willie McCullen became the permanent drummer for the group. At the end of 2011, the band relocated to New Orleans due to the style of the music deemed: "New Orleans Rock". Hazy Ray stepped onto the scene by landing on bills with singer/song-writer John Lefler of Dashboard Confessional, Everclear, Free-Sol, Hunter Hayes, Grammy award winning Rapper/Actor Ludacris, blues greats Tinsley Ellis and Tab Benoit. After releasing the debut effort "Deep and Shallow" in the spring of 2012, Hazy Ray evolved into the energetic live performing band they are now. Appearances at Springboard South and French Quarter Fest Music Festivals give glimpses to signs of what is to come and the 2012 and 2013 summer tours have expanded the group into a National-Touring Act; having played hundreds of shows across 14 states. Hazy Ray was wrapped recording of the "Superman EP" with plans of a release early next year, music video to follow.
