Candread & Rizing Rezistance
A captivating fiery collective, Candread & Rizing Rezistance are setting up the world for their new project Minimum Wage. Candread & Rizing Rezistance is a San Diego based band dedicated to playing Reggae music with a significant influence of East African rhythms. Lead singer Candread states “Our goal as a band is to provide our audience with great music to dance to and have a great time”. As a small child, he fled with his family to a refugee camp in nearby Malawi during Mozambique’s civil war. He soon returned home after the turbulent times had ended. Growing up, his uncle introduced him to several types of music, helping him shape his sound.
Candread cites Peter Tosh, Eric Donaldson, Toots and Maytals, Oliver Mtukudzi, John Chibadura and Thomas Mapfumo as major influences. In his mid-teens, he relocated to Idaho to peruse his love of music. In 2008, Candread released his debut Album Hard Work. During his career, he has opened for legendary acts such as Sister Carol, Grand Funk Rail Road and Blues Traveler with his previous group. Now revitalized, the multilingual vocalist returns with a new ensemble consisting of drummer Aaron Luke, percussionist Ryan Shultzaberger, bassist Joel Shedroff, lead guitarist Mike Devine, and back up vocalist Tam Pham.
