Ryan Kwan is a solo singer songwriter based in Los Angeles County. His primary instruments are Piano, guitar, didgeridoo, his voice, and bass. Ryan has been active in the music scene as early as 2007. In the early years Ryan would write songs on the bass guitar and post them on myspace to share with his friends. He jammed with various musicians in the South Bay area where he resided. During his schooling at Los Angeles Harbor College, Ryan met Davey and shared and jammed a few songs. Later some of those songs became part of a larger project Y2Pig. Ryan has performed in a punk band named Y2pig with Davey(Singer), Ian(Guitar),Ryan(Guitar and Bass) and Tim(Drums) Vinny(Drums). He played Bass and Keyboard in the band. They recorded an album that was never released.
Ryan studied music at Los Angeles Harbor College learning about music theory, performance, piano, guitar, and singing. Some influential teachers there where Ken Miller, Byron Smith, Robert York, and Michael Hiscocks. Around 2006 Ryan picked up the Piano and started studying classical piano learning from composers such as Mozart, Chopin, Haydn, Beethoven, Debussy. In 2007 Ryan began to play guitar. This became an outsource to express his songs with vocals and lead to the writing of his early songs. In 2011 Ryan Kwan released Laptop Sessions of 2010 which was a selective compilation of songs he recorded on his laptop.Some of these songs include “I’m a Little Fish”, “why Wait for Later”, “You are..” In 2012 Ryan Kwan released Laptop Sessions of 2011 which again was a selective compilation of songs from his Laptop of that year. Some of the songs include ” Night on the 91″ 2012 was a big year for recorded music. Ryan released a 20 song compilation of songs that he gave to a few friends that contained some of his instrumental music including songs such as “Coming Home”, “Late Night Conversations”. Ryan Kwan also wrote songs “Mystery cloud”, Pane Glass Window”, Our Candle”, “just Laugh”, “I Must Follow My Heart”.
During that time Ryan began performing more actively at friend’s house, coffeehouses, open mics, and Synchronicity. He met Ryan Maxey and eventually collaborated to film a video for “mystery cloud” that highlights his experience performing at the Salons that happen once a month at their house. Ryan recorded much music on his laptop. He began to search to collaborate with more musicians. His quest is still going. Currently collaborating with Daysmel Muniz on a song and with Casey and Thomas to help him record more instruments on his tracks. Also Peter has taken an interest to produce his album and is working on helping him work out ideas for instrumention. In 2014 Ryan took a spontaneous adventure across the Pacific Northwest and ended up playing and catching rides to cities such as Portland Oregon, Ashland Oregon, and Arcata California. He travel with his didgeridoo and performed sound healing to various travelers and people he came across. He arrived in arcata and had a goal to perform a show with a lot of the friends he met and the vibing youth. He suceeded in performing at CCAT, an unforgettable show. Currently Ryan is in Palos Verdes and actively traveling to Long beach to connect to that community. What next for him? Only the moment knows.
