Arms and Sleepers started one night in the back of an ambulance destined for Hampton Road in Boston's South Side. In an alleyway a man was bleeding with a cassette player in hand, the play button still on. What sounded like recordings of a gospel choir blared from the tin speaker while down the street, a jazz band could be heard. The man was dying. He dropped the cassette player on the cement and closed his eyes, the sound carrying through the air into his ears for one last time. Though this moment in time died with him, his cassette lived on—and Arms and Sleepers was born. Bliss Was It In That Dawn To Be Alive (Fake Chapter Records) is Arms and Sleepers' first full-length release. Varying configurations of rich, brassy textures, choppy beats and ethereal vocals are set atop thick, ambient undercurrents. The overall yield is an engaging, subterranean pulse driven by amorphous low-end frequencies. Comprised of Max Lewis (programming, keyboards) and Mirza Ramic (bass, keyboards), Arms and Sleepers is more than music, as performance is combined with visuals by talented Boston artist Dado Ramadani. This visual extension is conceived through collaboration between Dado and the band members. Ideas and sketches of the subject and meaning of each song are labored until the right images are created. The visuals are put together and synchronized perfectly with the rhythm of each song, providing the audience with a complete audio and visual experience.

Christa Gniadek had a long day busking on Newbury Street in Boston some years ago. It was summer and it was warm, and she took a short break after singing for longer than most would. She was about to take her guitar strap off when someone ran up, and took off with everything she spent all day earning: she was robbed. Years later, you will find her still taking the time to return to the scene of the crime with that same guitar, significantly longer hair, an abundance of new songs and a whole new attitude. Christa Gniadek is remarkably resilient, a quality that is clear in her persistence and dedication as a recording artist for over half a decade. Forever keen on creating a body of work, her next album “Hard Summer”, due in 2016 and completely funded by her fans, naturally embodies her evolution into a more pop, vocal-centered and single-oriented sonic landscape that still houses her uniquely strong emotional fingerprint. In the last year, Gniadek has bridged the gap between the day-to-day fiery, passionate side of her personality - the side that until now didn't always make it to the stage - and injecting that intensity, that grit, into her songwriting. This has elevated her new album and live show to a level even she was surprised by. She will tell you her recent creations, her songs, were the catalysts for pushing her into this new territory of her strong voice and attitude. Gniadek has become quite a force and looks forward to hitting the road again in May 2016 to get the word out about her new album. Four piece indie rock band from outside Boston with awesome three part harmonies.

THE MEADOWS BROTHERS The New England based Americana roots duo, The Meadows Brothers, are best known for their close sibling harmonies, melodious, unsweetened songwriting and expressive musicality. The brothers spryly deliver each carefully crafted song with an old soul sensibility. "Harmonies that will melt your heart into mush, guitar runs that will set your hair on fire..." and supple blues-tinged harp playing make for a satisfying, meaty music encounter. Art Rock, that’s a pretty broad term. And yet, when describing Providence, Rhode Island’s Roz & The Rice Cakes, the term Art Rock fits squarely in the center of any definition that attempts to describe this band’s sound. But under the stuttering time-changes, the crescendos and the complex arrangements, at the heart of these songs, there’s a simple pop quality that roots the band somewhere down a back alley where Fleetwood Mac and Henry Cow mingle with Bettie Serveert and Gwen Stefani. Roz & The Rice Cakes is equal parts experimental and catchy, energetic and bookish, daring and sugarcoated. This new double A-side (Close Encounter/The Conversation) sees the band’s further evolution as they embrace additional electronic and percussive elements, while maintaining their highly original art pop sound. Since 2008 the group has been touring the US non-stop, either headlining or supporting such artists as Passion Pit, Andrew WK, The Joy Formidable, OK GO and Tera Melos. They have played such national stages as the Newport Folk Festival.
